Day 6 of Euro 2012:
-Ahh, my Portuguese! Started the match off so well with two early goals. Pepe has been the best defender this tournament and scored a great header. Always dangerous from set-pieces. What to do with Ronaldo? The first chance in the second half was fine, but the second was strange. I’m so used to him rounding the keeper for tap-in. His confidence won’t be a problem next match, and his teammates will be feeling great. 3 goals without him. Man, when Varela took that shot, I was so pissed… Then it’s in the back of the net! Let out a few screams and lost my voice. Nothing better than late drama in soccer matches. Portugal has put themselves in great position to qualify. Postiga scored, but I still prefer Oliveira. Held the ball up well when he came on.
-Denmark deserves a ton of credit for fighting back, but they were punished for the way they started and ended the match. I predicted they’d start the tourney strong and return back to their normal form. The Danes will have to defend for their lives against Germany. Will be hoping for a draw and some help from the Dutch.
-Holland was the LAST team to score this tournament. Read that again. They’re applying no pressure to the ball which makes it so easy to pick a killer pass. Schweimsteiger and Gomez punished them for their mistakes. Expect van der Vaart to get the start next match as they go for the three points. I wouldn’t be completely surprised if they qualify. I give them more of a chance than the Danish.
-They still haven’t impressed me this tournament. Their play is very boring and slow, unlike their past 3 major tournaments. Maybe the Germans are waiting to pick on the runner-up from Group A to get started? If you’re a Germany fan, you have to be happy you have 6 points and your team still hasn’t peaked. Gomez is bursting with confidence. Their best is yet to come. Scary.
-I’ll stick with my predictions. Germany will beat Denmark to top the group, Portugal will hold on for a draw against the attacking Dutch to get to the knockout stage. Don’t count out the Dutch! I’ll be watching that match. Holland going all out attack and Portugal will look to hit them on the counter with Ronaldo and Nani. Will be end-to-end action.
